Meet Jacqueline Waihenya, Guest Speaker at The Corporate Governance Training For Board Members And Directors Taking Place from 6th to 10th February, 2023 at Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort, Mombasa.

  • Jacqueline Waihenya is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and Managing Partner of JWM Law LLP (formerly Jacqueline Waihenya Maina and Co. Advocates which she founded in 2012) with specialized interests in commercial law.
  • As an academic she holds an LLM from the University of Nairobi specializing in Public Finance & Financial Services Law [LLM Project “Decoding the Dilemma of Cryptocurrency Regulation in Kenya”]. She continues her scholarship as a Doctor of Laws PHD Candidate also at University of Nairobi.
  • Jacqueline is an ADR Expert and is a Chartered Arbitrator and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (C.ARB/FCIARB) holding a diploma in International Arbitration. She further holds an Advanced Certificate in Construction Adjudication from CIARB, is an International Federation of Consulting Engineers FIDIC Legal Professional and a member of the Dispute Resolution Board Foundation (DBRF). She is an International Mediation Institute – IMI Certified Mediator, is a Chartered Mediator at the Kenyan Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC) and she has recently been appointed a FIFA Approved Mediator as the sole Kenyan. She numbers amongst the pioneer accredited Kenya Judiciary Mediators and is registered as MAC No.005. As a Mediator she holds Certified Advanced Mediator qualifications in Sports Mediation, Tax Mediation, Commercial Mediation and Family & Divorce Mediation all from the Mediation Training Institute International (East Africa). She has published several peer reviewed articles in International Commercial and Investment Arbitration and Mediation and addressed various local, regional and international conferences and is an Associate Editor of the CIARB Kenya ADR Journal. She is in her final stages of obtaining an LLM in International Dispute Resolution at the Queen Mary University of London.
  • Jacqueline is also a Governance Expert being a Fellow Certified Secretary Kenya. She is an accredited Governance Auditor at the Institute of Certified Secretaries (ICS) where she sits on the Council and convenes the Research and Publications Committee where she has recently overseen the publication of the Governance Journal 2022 and the launch of the Governance Ethics Research and Compliance Manual and training. In 2021 she served on the Taskforce to the Review of the Certified Public Secretary Act which presented its report in November 2021. She is a certified Legal and Compliance Auditor by Kenya School of Law where she is also an adjunct lecturer. 
  • She serves as the Vice Chairperson of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators Kenya. Recently she chaired the Taskforce on the Transition of CIARB from a Society to CIARB Kenya Limited, a Company Limited by Guarantee transforming the Kenya Branch into one of the inaugural CIARB international corporate branches. She has further served as CIARB Conference Chairperson in 2022.
  • She represented CIARB in the National Steering Committee for the Formulation of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Policy 2020. The committee presented its Report to the Honourable the Attorney General in 2021 together with draft proposed Amendments to the Arbitration Act plus proposals for Construction Adjudication Bill and Dispute Resolution Bill. She convened the NSC Sub-Committee on Legislative Proposals.
  • Jacqueline further serves as the Vice Chairperson of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce & Industry – Mombasa Chapter and is the Vice Chairperson, Mombasa Law Society. She has recently been appointed to the National Council on the Administration of Justice (NCAJ) Standing Committee on Civil Justice Reforms. And the Mombasa Investment Corporation of the County Government of Mombasa.
  • As a corporate citizen Jacqueline is a life member of the Kenya Red Cross Society. She is also a Rotarian with the Rotary Club of Bahari-Mombasa, Kenya and a multiple Paul Harris Fellow. She previously served as the inaugural Kenya Country Chair in District 9212. She is a Woman’s Guild & communicant at the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) Milele Church, Mombasa, Kenya where she chairs the Justice Peace Reconciliation & Creation Committee (JPRC).
